Digital Screens or Hoarding Boards? How to Actually Choose

Digital Screens or Hoarding Boards? How to Actually Choose

February 10, 2025

This is probably the question we get asked the most: "Should I go for a digital screen or a regular hoarding board?" There's no single right answer, but there is a simple way to think about it. A hoarding board is one message, up for a long time. You pay once for the design and the space, and your ad stays exactly the same for weeks or months. It works best when you have one clear thing to say — your brand name, your new shop, your main product — and you want people to see it over and over until it sticks. A digital screen is different. It can show several ads on rotation, change anytime you want, and even run different messages at different times of day. If you're a business that runs sales often, or needs to update your message quickly — a new offer this week, a different one next week — a digital screen saves you from redesigning and reprinting every time. Cost is the other big factor. A hoarding board usually costs less upfront, and there's no fixed limit on how long your one message stays up, since you're renting the physical space, not screen time. A digital screen costs more, but you're not paying to print anything new each time you want to change your message, and you're sharing the same physical structure with other advertisers, which is part of why it can be more flexible. Here's a simple way to decide: if your message won't change for a while and you want maximum visibility for one strong idea, go with a hoarding board. If your business changes offers often, or you want to test a few different messages to see what works, a digital screen gives you that flexibility. A lot of our clients actually end up using both — a hoarding board for their main brand presence in one location, and a digital screen somewhere else for time-sensitive offers. If you're not sure which fits your business, tell us what you're trying to achieve, and we'll help you figure out the right mix.
